If your tablet displays the store demo video and requires a password you haven’t set after you bought it, you have been given a tablet in store mode and you will have to contact technical support. After a reset, the preloaded contents will need to be loaded again. Please refer to the “How to reset my device?” question.

The parental account is set up during the initial launch of the tablet. After that, you can still change or update some information from your parental profile. To do so, enter Kurio Genius, press the top left menu button and select “parental account”: you will be able to change your contact email, your name and your password.

To have more than one parental profile, go to Android settings / users and press “Add user or profile”. Select “user” and press “OK”. From there, you can set up your profile. However, that profile will not have access to Kurio Genius.

“To install external apps, you must download them first. There are two ways to install external apps:
1) Through your computer: You must download an APK file (installation file on Android System) and move the APK to your tablet (external or internal memory) in the “download” folder. Once the APK file is on the tablet, use the “file manager” app to browse the content of the tablet and go to “download” to find the downloaded APK. Press it to launch the installation. You may have a warning message saying that you first have to “authorise unknown sources”: follow the instructions to activate this option in the settings and go back to “file manager”. This will also be asked when downloading the first app installed from an alternative store. If you feel confident in the app, activate this option to allow the app to be installed.
2) Through the tablet directly: Install the app by selecting the file in the browser or the store where you found the app.
Categorisation pop-up: At the end of the installation, a categorisation pop-up will appear. Select the children’s profile for which you want to allow the applicatio and the category in which you want it to appear. Press OK to confirm. The new app will be directly available on the selected profile’s interface, in the chosen category.”

There are two stores available and already installed on your device: the KIDOZ Store and the Google Play Store. You can access them either on your profile or the child’s profile. The KIDOZ Store is always available in your child profiles at the bottom left of the screen, represented by a round icon. It is also in the “All apps” tab. The Google Play Store is not authorised by default on your children’s profiles, but will always appear on the interface. If you want to allow the Play Store, enter Kurio Genius and switch the “Google account” on in the profile settings. The Play Store is then accessible on your selected child profile from “other” and “all apps”.

Once the first child’s profile has been correctly set up, you can easily import the same parameters to another profile. To do so, create or select a child profile in Kurio Genius from the parental profile. From there, you can import three different types of settings: – App management: Enter this section by pressing the title, press the “Import list” button at the bottom right of the screen and select the profile you want to import the list from. – Time control: Enter this section by pressing the title, press the “Import list” button at the bottom right of the screen and select the profile you want to import the list from. – Web access: Enter this section by pressing the title, select the “Web List” tab, activate it by switching the button on at the bottom right of the screen, press the “import settings” button and select the profile you want to import the list from.

Yes, you can set up to eight profiles with the Kurio Tablet (parent profile included).

App-related questions

It is possible to find uninstalled preloaded apps in the updater as “new” apps. In any case, DO NOT factory reset the device.

For all third party apps, please contact the app developer. There is usually a help button in the app itself, or you can ask for support through their website.

Make sure you’ve done your research without misspellings or typos. It may help to change your search terms or make them more general, since publishers may occasionally change the name of an app or game. Compatibility If an app or a game doesn’t appear in your search results, it’s possible the app isn’t available in your country or compatible with the Kurio tablet. Developers can limit their apps or games to selected countries and devices.

Parental area and parental controls

Due to Android privacy system, the internal memory of your Kurio tablet is split for each profile: as a consequence, the files created or copied on the internal memory by USB are not visible from one profile to another one (for example: a picture taken from profile A cannot be accessible from profile B). So, to share files between profiles, we strongly recommend using the external SD card: this storage memory is completely visible from every profile on the tablet. For example, if you want both profiles A & B to be able to see a movie, store it on the external SD card. However for generic apps, this card is read only, use the tablet file manager or connect to a PC to manage the content of the SD card.

To add a child profile, enter the parental profile, press the Kurio Genius app and use the menu button at the top left of the screen to select “create new profile”. If you have already reached the maximum number of profiles, you can still delete a profile and replace it by creating a new one.

To set up the time controls and restrict the use of the tablet, enter Kurio Genius and select the child profile to configure by pressing the top left menu button. Switch “time control” on and press the title to access it. From there, you can set the authorised time slots during which your child can use their apps and a limit of play time per day or for every day of the week in the “all” tab. For more information about these settings, please check the help screens of that section on your Kurio tablet. The main screen of Kurio Genius shows the main information concerning your time control settings for this child.

“To manage authorized apps, enter Kurio Genius and select the profile to configure. The main screen of Kurio Genius shows the main information concerning your app management settings for this child. Press the “app management” title to access it. From there, you can allow, block or categorise apps for your child’s profile:
– To allow or block apps from the list: Tick the apps you want to allow or block for this profile and press “authorise” or “block”. All allowed apps will appear on the child profile’s interface. All blocked apps (with a padlock) will not appear on this profile’s interface. It is also possible to import the list of another profile by pressing the “Import list” button.
– To categorise apps: Tick the apps you want to move to a category and tap the desired category’s icon at the bottom left of the screen. Uncategorised applications will appear in “all apps” on your child profile’s interface.

WARNING: Categories are the same for all children profiles. If you move an app from one category to another, this application will appear in that new category for all your children profiles. However, it does not affect the authorisation of apps for other profiles. Changes you make for one profile will not be applied to others, unless you import his list.”

“The web access must be configured for each profile separately. Through Kurio Genius, choose the profile to configure. The main screen of Kurio Genius shows the main information concerning your web access settings for this child. Press the “web access” title to set it up. From there, you can configure two different ways to limit the web access:
– Web filtering: This option allows you to filter websites by categories. Default settings are based on the age of your child. Our advanced filtering system allows users to browse the web safely by blocking websites that may contain inappropriate content according to the age of the child. You can also customise the web filtering by switching the “custom parameters” on at the bottom of the screen and activating or disabling the filter’s shield for each category. You can still use the preset parameters anytime by pressing “Set to current age”.
– Web list: This section allows you to block, authorise or filter specific websites. You can add websites or import the settings from a list you have already configured for another profile. If you need any further explanation, remember to check the corresponding help screens directly on your Kurio tablet.
WARNING: These filters will only be functional on the “Browser” app.”

Launch Kurio Genius, press the top left menu button and select “Parental account” to change your password (the current password is required to change it). You can choose between a PIN password, a text password or a pattern to protect your account. In order to protect your parental account, it is strongly recommended to change your password regularly.

“After five incorrect passwords, the tablet will be blocked for 30 seconds. You have the possibility to reset your password if you have wifi activated on your tablet and if you have set an email address in Kurio Genius. To do so, access this link from a browser and enter the serial number of your tablet (the S/N is on the back of your tablet). An email will be sent to the email address you have on your tablet. From the received email, press “reset parental password”. The password will be reset after you reboot the tablet.

Do not forget to set a new password in order to prevent children from accessing your profile and to access all parental control functionalities. See the question above to set a new password.”

From the parental profile, enter Kurio Genius, select the child profile to delete using the menu button on the top left corner and from the same menu, select the option to delete the profile. Confirm on the pop-up window.

“From the parental profile, press the “switch user” icon and choose the profile to switch to. The log-in screen of the selected child profile will appear.

From a child profile, you can use the same “switch user” icon appearing by default in the “other” category; or tap on the gear icon at the bottom right corner of the screen and then press the “switch user” icon and choose the profile you want to switch to. You can also come back to the lock screen by briefly pressing the power button twice.”

From the child’s interface, press the gear icon at the bottom right corner of the screen and select “change my theme”. Select the desired theme to apply it on the interface. You can also decide to change the theme while keeping the background by ticking the option at the bottom of the themes screen.

KIDOZ Store

To create an account, you can sign up directly in the KIDOZ Store app from the button at the top right corner of the app. You can also create an account or log in when you press “download” or “buy” after selecting any app.

To install apps, you must log in to your KIDOZ Store account or create it if you don’t have one. To create an account, see the question above. Once logged in, simply press the “download” button in the selected app’s page. The app will download and install on your profile. If you want it to appear on your child’s profile, you have to authorise it from Kurio Genius’ app management. You can also categorise it for easier access.

Your child can install apps directly from his profile the same way as on your profile, as long as you have set an account (see questions above) on the KIDOZ Store from their profile. If you want all the apps that your child will install to be authorised and displayed automatically, the option “authorise app auto” in Kurio Genius must be ON.

You can uninstall any installed app from the updater on the profile you want to uninstall it from.

“If you don’t see a downloaded app in your child’s profile, you need to authorise that app from Kurio Genius. Tap on the “app management” title and find the newly downloaded app in the list of apps and add it to your child’s profile by check marking it and pressing “authorise”.

Alternatively, you can switch the “authorise app auto” option from the main screen of Kurio Genius, under the “app management” title. Activating this setting will place any future downloaded app automatically into your child’s profile. Before activating this setting, just make sure that any apps you plan to download in the future are appropriate for your child. By default, these new apps will be displayed in the “all apps” tab of the child’s profile in alphabetical order. You can choose to move them to another place or category from the app management or simply by pressing and dragging the icons from the “all apps” tab on the child’s profile to the “favorites” category icon.”

Product Spec Questions

Your Kurio tablet comes with a fully customisable web content filtering system called “Kurio Genius”, which provides the most secure solutions for each member of your family to browse the internet safely. Provided by CronLab, over 450 million websites in 170 languages are indexed and categorised daily as appropriate or inappropriate content for your child, and more are added everyday through auto-updates to keep your protection detailed and up to date. When a site is determined to be inappropriate, it is automatically blocked. You can let the predefined categories filter automatically according to the age entered for your child’s profile, or you can specifically determine which categories to allow or to block by activating “custom parameters”. You can also create a list that will scan simultaneously with the content filtering software to improve your child’s internet experience! Please note that our filtering software is amongst the strongest systems available, but, as with any system, it cannot filter 100% of websites so adult supervision is still recommended.
